The coroner’s office in Erie County, Pennsylvania has ruled the death of Emily Matson, a well-known anchor for “Erie News Now,” who was struck by a train, as a suicide.

Matson, 42, was hit by a train in Fairview Township, Erie, Pennsylvania, where she lived, around 12:45 am on Monday, Dec. 11.

She was last seen on air on Friday, Dec. 8 before the station announced her tragic passing on Monday.

Matson had been hosting “Erie News Now” for nearly 20 years, presenting the 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. news.

Scott MacDowell, the news director, sadly confirmed the loss of the veteran presenter, stating, “Emily was a shining light in our newsroom, delivering news with a passion and love she had for the Erie community and Northwest Pennsylvania.”

Matson initially joined WICU-TV as a morning show producer and later transitioned into a role in front of the camera.

Former colleague, Paul Wagner, described Matson as a “very positive person” who was always encouraging to new staff.

A funeral mass is set to take place on Saturday morning, Dec 16, at St. Jude R.C. Church in Erie.
