John Twitchell Obituary, Death – John W. “Jack” Twitchell, 71, of Rio Rancho passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2020. He was born in Appleton, Minnesota, on July 18, 1948, to L.F. “Teeter” and Pat Twitchell. He graduated from Benson High School in Benson, Minnesota, in 1966. Jack volunteered for the US Army in 1966. He married Kathy Leitz, his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, on April 22, 1967.
Still based in Germany, Jack reenlisted in November 1969. He then attended the Cardio Pulmonary Technician School at the US Naval Depot San Diego. In 1971, he was one of two graduates out of a class of twelve. Jack was one of the first Cardio-Pulmonary Technicians in the United States Army. Jack was stationed at Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, D.C. after serving his time in the Army at William Beaumont Army Medical Center in El Paso, Texas. After eight years of honorable service, Jack was honorably released as a Specialist 5 in 1973.
After that, Jack moved to Long Prairie, Minnesota, and then back to El Paso, where he opened the Sierra Medica Center Cath Lab. After living in El Paso for four years, he took a job in Saudi Arabia. His first job in Saudi Arabia was as Technical Director of the Cardio-Pulmonary Lab at Al Hada Armed Forces Hospital. Later on, while working for the Saudi Royal Family, he opened clinics in the Royal Palaces in Taif and Riyadh. Jack moved his family to Saudi Arabia, where they lived for four years. They became excellent squash players and enjoyed snorkeling in the Red Sea as a kind of recreation. After leaving Saudi Arabia, he moved the family to Rio Rancho, New Mexico. He worked for the Veterans Administration for 28 years as a respiratory technician before retiring.
